Praise and Hands Raised

Our Beliefs

We believe.

God

There is one and only one living and true God. God is infinite in holiness, love, and all other perfections. The eternal triune God reveals Godself to us as Creator, Christ, and Holy Spirit, with distinct personal attributes, but without division of nature, essence, or being. God’s Basileia (or realm of authority) encompasses all creation and reveals God’s loving relationship with humankind and the whole created order. We are invited to participate in God’s work of love, justice, reconciliation, and restoration throughout creation.

Jesus Christ

Jesus of Nazareth is the Christ and the eternal Word of God who became flesh, was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and was born of the virgin Mary. Through Jesus’ life, ministry, crucifixion, death, burial, and resurrection, God reveals divine love, confronts and ultimately overcomes the powers of sin and death, and offers redemption, liberation, reconciliation, and new life.

Bible

The Holy Bible is divinely inspired by God and is God’s self-revelation to humankind.

Salvation
Salvation is God’s gracious work of redemption, liberation, reconciliation, and restoration of the whole person. It is offered freely to all through Jesus Christ, whose life, crucifixion, death, burial, and resurrection reconcile us to God and invite us into new life.

Christ's Return
God, in God’s own time and own way, will bring creation toward its promised fulfillment. According to God’s promise, Jesus Christ will return personally and visibly in glory. We await the resurrection of the dead and the fulfillment of God’s Basileia (or realm of authority), when creation is restored and we dwell forever in the presence of God.

Baptism
Christian baptism is a sacred and symbolic act of faith whereby a disciple is immersed in water as a profession of faith in the name of the one living and true triune God: Creator God, Jesus Christ, and Spirit. It is a sacred act symbolizing the disciple’s faithful participation in the life, crucifixion, death, burial, and resurrection of Christ and our entrance into new life and God’s Beloved Community of faith.

Communion

Holy Communion is a sacred and symbolic act of faith whereby we gather as disciples around a shared table, partaking of the bread and the fruit of the vine to remember the life, crucifixion, death, burial, and resurrection of Christ, celebrate our communion with Christ and one another, and anticipate Christ’s return and the fullness of God’s Basileia (or realm of authority).

The Church

We are an autonomous local congregation of faith, joined by covenant in the faith and fellowship of the Gospel. By faith, we are guided by the Holy Spirit as we discern and participate together through democratic processes. As the Body of Christ, we are called to love God and our neighbors, seek justice, practice reconciliation, care for creation, and bear witness to the Gospel in our community and throughout the world. South Fort Worth Baptist Church is affiliated with the Southwest Metroplex Baptist Association and the Texas Baptists.

Priesthood of Each Believer

Every Christian is equal before God. Through Christ, each believer has direct access to God without distinction or human hierarchy. No human mediator is required for the forgiveness of sins. Each believer is free and responsible to engage the Scriptures prayerfully, in community, trusting the Holy Spirit to provide guidance and wisdom. Together, Christians are accountable to God and one another for faithfully embodying the Gospel.

Stewardship & Generous Giving.

God is the source of all blessings, temporal and spiritual. All that we have and all that we are belong ultimately to God. We understand ourselves not as owners, but as caretakers of gifts entrusted to us, including our time, abilities, resources, relationships, communities, and the created world. Christians are therefore called to practice generous stewardship for the glory of God, the care of our neighbors, the flourishing of creation, and the work of justice and reconciliation. According to the Scriptures, Christians should give cheerfully, regularly, proportionately, and generously as we participate together in God’s redemptive work in the world.
